What better way to welcome the summer than with an old fashioned musical melodrama filled with cheering the hero and booing the villain?
- OBSERVE the downfall of innkeeper Simon Slade, upright proprietor of the Sickle and Sheaf Tavern as he is ensnared by the spirits which are his stock and trade!
- WITNESS Little Mary, the pure of heart daughter of the town drunkard, Joe Morgan, as she beseeches him in song “Father, Oh Father, Come Home With Me Now”!
- SHED A TEAR as Little Mary becomes a blameless victim of the tavern and is welcomed home to the angels after she is inadvertently struck by a bar glass that has been savagely thrown through the tavern door!
- CHEER the salvation of Joe Morgan as he vows to never again touch another drop of the devil’s drink!
- THRILL as Goldie Hills, the saloon singer with a heart of gold, is lashed to a mooring post by the villainess Harvey Green on a cold and misty night and is then left in the rising tide to tragically drown!
- APPLAUD as the redeemed Joe Morgan intrepidly comes to rescue and releases Goldie seconds before she would meet her watery doom!
Don’t miss Ten Nights in a Barroom, a side-splitting EXTAVAGANZA filled with FUN and LAUGHTER for the WHOLE FAMILY.

Ten Nights In A Barroom is a musical version of the classic temperance melodrama by William W. Pratt. All songs in the show are popular songs from the late 1800s. Ten Nights In A Barroom will need a cast that is familiar with the style of acting associated with classic melodrama. Improve experience is a plus.
Cast of characters are as follows:
Male roles
Squire Romaine (30s to 60s) A traveler. Extremely intolerant to the evils of “demon rum” because he himself has been through the mill. He frequently expounds on his repulsion of strong drink.
Sample Swichel (20s to 30s) A likable New England country bumpkin. He is almost always happy and does his best for everyone. In love with Mehitabel Cartwright.
Simon Slade (Late 30s to 50s) Once was the owner of the old mill, but now is the proprietor of the Sickle and Sheaf Inn. Once an upstanding husband and father, he eventually succumbs to the dangers of the strong drink he sells.
Frank Slade (Late teens to early 20s) The son of Simon Slade. A good natured and hard working young man, but eventually like his father is seduced by the temptations of working in a house of drink.
Harvey Green (Late 30s to Early 60s) He is the villain and a worse one never drank at a bar. A man who makes his living by gambling and swindling. He’s not opposed to cheating at cards if the chance presents itself.
Willie Hammond (20s to early 30s) A dapper young man. Spoiled but well meaning and blind to the dangers in the world. He is swindled of his inheritance by Harvey Green.
Joe Morgan (30s to 50s) A sad soul. Once an upstanding gentleman, but because of the effects of strong drink is now the town drunkard. Eventually sees the error of his ways.
Female roles
Mrs. Slade (Late 30s to 50s) The long suffering wife of Simon Slade. She is a woman who always sees the darkest side of everything and, one suspects, gets her happiness from it. Good natured and noble, but prone to outbursts of tears.
Goldie Hills (20s to 30s) A voluptuous saloon singer. Slightly tougher than other women as she’s had a hard life. Although she was originally the henchwoman of Harvey Green she sees the error of her ways because of her heart of gold.
Mary Morgan (20s) This role is that of a child but is to be played by an adult. The innocent child of Joe Morgan. She is all that is good and pure in the world and has a forgiving heart. She tends to be overly sweet and cheerful.
Mehitabel Cartwright (20s) A pretty young pure of heart country girl. Happy, carefree and bubbling with life. She is in love with Sample Switchel.
Mrs. Morgan (Late 20s to early 40s) The long suffering wife of Joe Morgan and mother of Little Mary. She is very worried about the drinking habits of her husband but is patient and forgiving.
Annabel and Clarabel (Late teens to 20s) Girlfriends of Mehitabel Cartwright.
Also seeking vaudeville type specialty acts. Magicians, ventriloquists, jugglers, etc. These specialty acts will be auditioned separately from the general casting of the show. If you wish to audition a specialty act you will not excluded from auditioning for the show itself.
